One Sheet GDD: A time's journey

Here is the first of three videogames that i'm gonna design for this subject.
Enjoy!

A time's journey

Intended Game Systems: PC, PS4, XBOX One

Genre: RPG

Target age of players: All ages, especially between 20 and 50 years old.

Intended PEGI Rating: 16, Violence, Bad Words.

Game's Story: Jeen is a writer, that lives in a big town with his girlfriend, Sophye. He has never known his parents, so his was raised in a child care center. One day, enjoying a quiet afternoon with Sophye, a mysterious hooded man kidnapped Sophye, and dissapeared with her. Jeen, then, had the goal to find her and save from whoever kidnapped her.
Since there, Jeen will travel across time solving puzzles and fighting with diferent enemies, caracteristical of each age he visits. But he won't fight alone; because while he knows more about his past, makes alliance with powerful people that aids him in the combats.
Also, a mysterious figure give him powers to travel across the time, that will allows him to solve easily the puzzles and complete some tasks that, in some momento of the adventure, couldn't be able.

Gameplays: There are some kinds of gameplays that are worth to mention:

  • Exploring: In each age Jeen visits, he doesn't know what to do. So, he have to explore each scene to get more information about his tasks and the location of his girlfriend
  • Solving puzzles: Approximately two or three per era, Jeen have tosolve, with the help of his partners, some puzzles that recquire all the logical and the intelligence of the player. As long as the adventure goes on, these puzzles become more difficult and unpredictable.
  • Fighting: Like in all the good RPG, fighting is a important part of its gameplay. Each era have one or two final bosses, that recquires the expertise and ability of the player, as well as the correct assignation of the skill points to he main characters. Apart of this, in each scene take place random combats. But, the strong point of A time's journey, is that these combats will be of two types:
    • Physical: The traditional combats of a RPG. Each player will have a HP bar and a Energy bar, that will be emptied by using attack and protective skills
    • Mental: When Jeen discovers how to travel across the time, these combats will be unlocked. The mental presence of themain character and his partners that are able to will be translated to a parallel world, and there will face the “brains” of other creatures, as well as some bosses. Here will be two bars: a bar of Will that is emptied each turn and the bar of Power, that starts from 0 and its filled each turn, unlocking when it's full a powerful mental attack.

Unique sells points:

  • 8 playable characters to defeat the corrupted time guardians.
  • A unique range of scenarios and ages that envolve the gameplay.
  • Emotional and intense story, with 2 possible finals.
  • Original gameplay, with 2 types of combats and, in consequence, 2 ranges of attributes to improve your characters.
  • You can change your fate! Go back in time to prevent some actions and watch the steps of your 'You' of the past
  • Huge range of time crystals and newspaper articles to unlock and to lengthen the duration of the game.

Competitive products: This is a very original game, so it doesn't have a direct competitive product. However, we could insert here the classical RPG that are hitting right now the market, like Tales of Xillia 2 and the new Dragon Quest.

Sneak peek: A time's journey

Here I want to introduce you the first of the three ideas that I would to develop in this subject.
A time's journey, a RPG time-travelling game, which I developed the last year with the invaluable help of my partners and friends Jordi, JL and Joaquin.
This is a original game where Jeen, a young writer of an actual era is envolved in a conspiration that go through the time and the space, all started when his girlfriend, Sophye, is kidnapped in their house.
A good and original story, good mechanics and a solid gameplay conforms a unique game.
A time's journey, the first of my three projects for this subject.
